Dear District 96 Families, School is open tomorrow, Feb. 12, 2025. I am sending this message due to the current weather forecast and the fact that a number of school districts are opting for an E Learning day tomorrow. We are not. We will be open for school as usual. Our after school clubs and activities are canceled. According to recent weather forecasts, snow may increase over the course of the day. We understand that the conditions will support safe travel to and from school tomorrow. Please know that the safety and well being of our students, our families and our staff members are always our top priority. While weather conditions can be unpredictable we believe that our work with the local villages, department of public works and up to date weather forecasting allow for a meaningful day of student learning tomorrow. The first One Book, One School Spirit Day was a purr-fect success! 🐱 The hallways were filled with whiskered cats and imaginary friends—just like Jackson’s loyal (and larger-than-life) companion, Crenshaw! It was a delight to see our school coming together to share in the joy of reading.💜

Guess who zoomed into Central School? It’s FLASH! ⚡️Our favorite roadrunner mascot made a visit last week, spreading school spirit and cheer all around!

Our kindergarten friends wrapped up another ELA unit with an exciting STEM challenge—building houses for the Three Little Pigs! 🏠 🐷 Using toothpicks and gumdrops, they worked in teams to design and construct sturdy homes, hoping to outsmart the Big Bad Wolf’s huff and puff! 💨🐺 Through creativity, teamwork, and a little trial and error, these young engineers put their structures to the test. It was an action-packed week at Central! We celebrated the 101st day of school in the most un-fur-gettable way. Our first grade teachers and friends unleashed their creativity and dressed up as Dalmatians. They had a ball participating in a variety of puppy-themed adventures! 🐶 From dog ears to creative crafts and exciting games, it was a paws-itively amazing 101st day of school! 🐾

The 100th Day celebrations continued, and our Roadrunners had a blast designing special crowns and dressing up as if they were 100 years old! They fully embraced the spirit of the day while enjoying exciting themed activities. We are so proud of how much they’ve grown and learned in these 100 days! 🤓

100 Days Smarter! 🎉 Today we celebrated the 100th Day of School in the most fun and creative ways! From dressing up as 100-year-olds to completing 100-themed activities, it was a day full of laughter and memories. Mrs. Neal’s class dove into the wonders of how rivers flow during an engaging science lesson!🗻 Students created paper mountains as models of the earth’s surface and used them to discover how rivers work. Using spray bottles to simulate rain falling on their mountains, they observed patterns of how water moves and shapes the land. This hands-on activity really made a splash in second grade! 🌊

One Book, One School is Back! We’re excited to kick off this year’s One Book, One School program with the inspiring and imaginative story, Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate. Every student will have the chance to read this heartwarming tale of friendship, resilience, and hope as we come together as a community of readers. Be sure to look in your child’s backpack tonight for materials including books, reading logs, welcome letters, and art contest flyers.

New year, new goals! 🎉 Central Roadrunners are kicking off the new year by setting goals to make 2025 their best year yet! From academic achievements to personal growth, they’re ready to soar to new heights.

Our fourth graders kicked off the season with a Winter Read-In! 📖❄️ Cozy blankets, warm drinks, and some fantastic books filled the room as students dove into their reading adventures. What better way to enjoy winter than with a good book? 📚❤️

Our students truly shined during this year’s Holiday Music Program! 🎶 From festive carols to cheerful performances, they filled the air with holiday spirit and joy. The hard work and dedication from each performer was evident, and it was a heartwarming experience for all who attended. A huge shout out to Mr. Renardo and all students who participated in this wonderful program! 🌟

Our kindergarteners had a sweet time completing various gingerbread-themed activities this season! Gingy, the class gingerbread man, sent letters and crafts from Germany, Mexico and the North Pole. Students explored holiday traditions from around the world, creating German gingerbread men, poinsettias from Mexico, and Polar Express conductor hats. It was a delightful way to celebrate diverse cultures and traditions! 🌟

All aboard the Polar Express! 🚂💫 Our kindergarteners had the most wonderful time at their Polar Express Party! They created fun crafts, enjoyed festive snacks, and watched the movie that brought the holiday magic to life. It was a day filled with laughter, creativity, and unforgettable memories!

This week, our 1st graders embarked on their second Math in Action adventure, and it was a camping extravaganza! 🏕️ Students dove into the theme, working together to brainstorm and plan three exciting math camp activities. To make the day even more special, they rotated between all three first grade classrooms for a variety of exciting games and crafts. In Ms. Cohen’s room, desks transformed into cozy tents, where flashlights helped illuminate the fun as friends worked on these engaging activities!

Fourth-grade friends had a heartwarming visit from Lily, the adorable therapy dog! 🐾 Lily will be joining us throughout the school year to help spread joy and confidence among our students. Listening to students read aloud! 📚 With her wagging tail and calming presence, she is the perfect companion to help make reading fun, relaxing, and encouraging for everyone. This paws-itively amazing program is all about boosting confidence in the most comforting way. We can’t wait for Lily to bring more smiles and inspiration to our Central family! 🐕
